I am a professor at the School of Computing (SoC), National University of Singapore (NUS). I obtained a PhD in Computer Science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2008. Before joining SoC in 2018, I was an associate professor at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

I am an IEEE Fellow and an ACM Distinguished Member. I received the VLDB 2021 Best Research Paper Award and the 2022 ACM SIGMOD Research Highlight Award. I have served as a trustee of the VLDB Endowment (2022-present), as well as an associate editor for PVLDB (2018-2020, 2022-present), the VLDB Journal (2017-present), and IEEE TKDE (2018-present).

Research Interests

My research focuses on data management and analysis, with special interests in two topics:
  • Algorithms and systems for protecting privacy in data sharing and analysis.
    • Recent interests: differential privacy, federated learning
  • Algorithms and systems for large data analysis.
    • Recent interests: social network analysis, graph embedding, graph neural networks
