Dr. Nicholas MacGregor Garcia is a Lecturer of Information Systems at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Industry Relations Co-Director of the NUS Fintech Lab. He is set to receive his Ph.D. degree in Information Systems from New York University, Stern School of Business in January 2023. Prior to his doctoral studies, he holds a B.Sc. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley (2012) and a Masters of Information Systems Management degree from Carnegie Mellon University (2015). Dr. Garcia is an experienced teacher who has worked with students of varying academic and professional backgrounds. He is currently teaching Fintech and Blockchain courses at the NUS School of Computing, where he is also overseeing the development and launch of a brand new curriculum for Smart Systems and AI Governance. With this cutting-edge curriculum, students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the ever-changing field of AI and Smart Systems. Dr. Garcia has extensive experience working with a variety of firms, including tech startups, public utilities, and large public companies. Some of the notable organizations Dr. Garcia has worked with include Intel, IBM, and EA Games. Dr. Garcia's research interests include the sociology, ethics, development and governance of fintech and data science, as well as adapting data science tools to complement traditional qualitative methods for social science. Dr. Garcia has presented research papers at the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), Academy of Management (AoM), and the International Symposium on Process Organization Studies (PROS), and has published work on computational social science in the Journal Open Linguistics.
