Dr. Low Kok Lim is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science of the School of Computing at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He received his Ph.D. degree (2006) in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds a B.Sc. (Honours) degree (1996) in Computer and Information Sciences and a M.Sc. degree (1997) in Computer Science from the National University of Singapore. Dr. Low's main research area is in Computer Graphics. One of his research interests is the use of computational methods to design and create artworks. His research in this has produced interesting methods to automate the design of various types of artistic papercraft. His interest in computational art has also extended into computational photography, where he applies computational methods to enhance aesthetics in photographs. Dr. Low has also been working on real-time computer graphics rendering, especially on the adaptation of traditional global illumination effects for real-time rendering on the GPU. Dr. Low has served as dissertation advisor for Ph.D. and Master's students in the School of Computing, NUS. He has also been on numerous graduate students' thesis committees, and has guided many undergraduate students in their undergraduate research projects. As a lecturer, besides teaching advanced undergraduate courses in computer graphics, real-time rendering, and GPGPU, he also enjoys teaching basic computing courses to fresh undergraduate students. For his commitment to good teaching, Dr. Low has been awarded the Faculty Teaching Excellence Award several times, and has been placed on the Faculty Teaching Excellence Honour Roll.
