Research Assistant

Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Assistant in IoT security area under NUS-Singtel Corporate Lab Cybersecurity program at the Department of Computer Science, School of Computing.

The number of IoT (Internet of Things) devices is expected to grow to a few billions in the next five years. This poses a number of challenges, one of them being security. IoT devices are vulnerable to exploits, and at the project scale of the market, can lead to attacks on unprecedented scale and frequency. Therefore, it is inevitable to look into different kinds of approaches to develop solutions for securing IoT devices. In this research, we plan to take a network-centric approach towards securing IoT devices and handling attacks originating from IoT devices. The research will look into the problems of detection of attacks and anomalies on and due to IoT devices, as well as into real-time attack mitigation. This will involve analysis of traffic at different levels, and development of statistical models for analysis and decision making. We will explore the use of emerging paradigms such as NFV (network function virtualization) and SDN (software defined networking), etc. to develop the solutions. The scope of the work for the Research Assistant position requires working with real IoT devices, development/ implementation/testing/performance study of the security techniques and prototype.
