Growing Technological Relatedness to the ICT Industry and Its Impacts

We create an inter-sectoral citation network using 1.3 million patents granted between 1981 and 2010 across all industries in the U.S. In this network space, we find a significant increase over time in the proximity of non-ICT industries to the ICT industry. This “ICT-Closeness” significantly increases innovation performance and creates hyper-competition among the firms in the citing industry.

Designing New App Features: Imitate, Innovate or Follow the Crowd

Traditionally, product development ideas came from firms to the users, but now, user reviews on online platforms offer valuable insights. This research helps developers know when to take user suggestions into account and when to trust their instincts for creating better apps, especially when it comes to incorporating innovative and imitative features.
