Professor Bernard C Y Tan is Senior Vice Provost at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He assists the Provost in setting educational directions and policies, and in assuring educational quality for NUS. He chairs the University Committee on Educational Policy. He has chaired the Board of Undergraduate Studies and the Board of Graduate Studies. He was Vice Provost from 2012 to 2017, Associate Provost from2009 to 2012, Executive Council Chair of NUS Teaching Academy in 2009, Head of Department of Information Systems from 2002 to 2008, and Assistant Dean of the NUS School of Computing from 2000 to 2002. Professor Tan was President of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) from 2009 to 2010 and Asia-Pacific Council Representative of AIS from 2004 to 2006. He has served on the editorial boards of MIS Quarterly and Journal of the AIS as Senior Editor, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management as Department Editor, Management Science and ACM Transactions on Management Information Systems as Associate Editor, and Journal of Management Information Systems. He has served as Conference Co-Chair, Program Co-Chair, Junior Faculty Consortium Co-Chair, Doctoral Consortium Co-Chair, and Doctoral Dissertation Competition Co-Chair for the International Conference on Information Systems as well as Conference Co-Chair and Program Co-Chair for the Pacific-Asia Conference on Information Systems. Professor Tan is a recipient of the NUS Outstanding Service Award in 2026, the NUS Outstanding Computing Alumni Award in 2019, the NUS Outstanding Educator Award in 2004, and the NUS Young Researcher Award in 2002. He is a recipient of the AIS LEO Award in2024 for lifetime exceptional achievements, the AIS Sandy Slaughter Service Award in 2019, and the AIS Fellow Award in 2011. He is also a recipient of the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2012 and the Long Service Medal in 2019. Professor Tan is Shaw Professor in the Department of Information Systems and Analytics. He has given keynote addresses and invited talks at international conferences and workshops. His research work has been published in major international journals and conference proceedings in the field of information systems. He received his PhD from NUS in 1995 and did his postdoctoral studies at Stanford University from 1996 to 1997.
