This course is part of the (SCTP) NUS Data Engineering Programme. Applicants are required to register for all SCTP courses.

Course Overview

This one-day course equips participants with the essential knowledge and skills for designing and implementing modern data ingestion and transformation pipelines. Participants will gain a strong understanding of batch and stream ingestion techniques. The course also explores the differences between Extract, Load and Transform (ELT) and Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) design patterns, enabling participants to choose and apply the right approach for specific use cases. Through hands-on exercises, participants will develop skills in using Python for data migration, including handling diverse file formats, and learn to implement data cleansing and transformation techniques within ETL pipelines.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

Understand the concepts and techniques of batch and stream ingestion for efficient data collection and integration
Differentiate between ELT and ETL design patterns and apply the appropriate approach for specific use cases
Develop skills in using Python for data migration, including handling various file formats
Implement data cleansing and transformation techniques within ETL pipelines using Python
