This course is part of the (SCTP) NUS Data Engineering Programme. Applicants are required to register for all SCTP courses.

Course Overview

This course aims to equip participants with the foundational skills and practical experience required to use Python for data engineering tasks. It provides a comprehensive introduction to Python, focusing on the core fundamentals of the language while emphasizing its applicability and versatility. The course will focus on hands-on exercises that simulate real-world data engineering workflows, helping participants effectively harness Python’s capabilities for data processing, integration, and transformation.

By the end of the course, participants will gain the essential skills to use Python for key data engineering tasks, such as data ingestion and manipulation, and will be prepared to apply these techniques in a data-driven environment.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

Understand the fundamental concepts of programming and how they apply to Python
Work with core Python data structures, including lists, tuples, sets, dictionaries, and strings
Create dynamic and flexible Python programs using control structures like loops and conditionals
Read and write data to and from files and databases, enabling effective data ingestion and storage
Apply Python skills to process, clean, and transform data, preparing it for data engineering tasks
Leverage key Python libraries for data manipulation and common data engineering tasks
