Message from the Dean
Professor Tulika Mitra
Dean, School of Computing
Provost’s Chair Professor
2025 marks a pivotal year for Singapore, the National University of Singapore (NUS), and the NUS School of Computing (NUS Computing), as we celebrate 50 years of computing education in Singapore. This milestone, alongside Singapore’s 60th year of nation-building and NUS’s 120th anniversary, offers a unique opportunity to reflect on our remarkable journey and look ahead to the exciting future we are poised to create.
Since our founding in 1975, NUS Computing has grown into one of the world’s leading institutions for computing education and research. We have played a central role in shaping Singapore’s information technology landscape, educating generations of computing professionals who are at the forefront of industry, academia, and technological innovation. Today, our impact extends far beyond Singapore’s borders, with over 6,000 students enrolled and a 20,000-strong alumni network.
I am deeply inspired by the legacy of excellence built by my predecessors and excited to lead the School into its next chapter. We remain committed to staying at the forefront of emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, cyber-security, and digital sustainability.
The challenges of an AI-driven world require us to evolve continuously, ensuring our curriculum and research address both industry needs and global challenges.
I am committed to fostering an environment where technical expertise is paired with creativity, leadership, and social responsibility. Our goal is to nurture the next generation of computing leaders who will not only excel in their technical fields but also make meaningful contributions to society. We will continue to create opportunities for our students, faculty, and industry partners to collaborate, innovate, and drive meaningful change.
I would also like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Professor Tan Kian Lee for his exceptional leadership and contributions as Dean. He has played a pivotal role in shaping the School into what it is today, and I am excited to build on his legacy. As we celebrate 50 years of NUS Computing, I invite all of you to join us on this exciting journey. Whether you’re interested in being part of our computing family, collaborating with us, mentoring the next generation of innovators, or contributing to societal progress, NUS Computing offers a dynamic platform for you to make a real impact.
Together, we will continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in computing and help shape a brighter future for all.
