NUS FinTech Lab Receives UBRI Maverick Award for Global Impact in FinTech Research and Education

The NUS FinTech Lab has been awarded the UBRI Maverick Award by Ripple’s University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI), in recognition of its outstanding contributions to FinTech research, education, and global collaboration.

Led by Professor Jungpil Hahn from the NUS School of Computing, the Lab has established a strong ecosystem that supports student-driven innovation, academic excellence, and industry relevance.

Among its key initiatives is NUSwap, a simulated digital asset trading platform that uses real-time market data to support experiential learning and research. The platform has supported over 100 students across Singapore, the United States, and Brazil.

In research, the Lab’s affiliates have published 11 peer-reviewed papers covering areas such as AI governance, blockchain-based carbon tracking, and decentralised finance. The Lab also engages in international workshops, conferences, and hackathons, connecting students and researchers across continents.

This award reflects the Lab’s continued impact in shaping the future of financial technology through education, research, and global partnerships.
