Professor Tulika Mitra Appointed Dean of NUS School of Computing
The National University of Singapore (NUS) announced the appointment of Professor Tulika Mitra as the new Dean of the NUS School of Computing, effective 1 July 2025.
An eminent computer scientist and academic leader, Professor Mitra brings over two decades of distinguished service at NUS to her new role. She currently serves as Vice Provost (Academic Affairs) and Provost’s Chair Professor of Computer Science, and is recognised internationally for her pioneering research in hardware-software codesign, with a focus on real-time embedded systems and energy-efficient AI accelerators.
Professor Mitra joined NUS School of Computing's Department of Computer Science in 2001 and has since held numerous leadership roles, including Deputy Head of Department, Chair of the University Promotion and Tenure Committee (UPTC), and Vice Provost (Academic Affairs). As Vice Provost, she has championed a more inclusive and forward-looking culture for faculty recruitment and development at NUS — broadening recognition beyond conventional academic metrics, refining promotion pathways for educational leadership, and strengthening the practice-track framework.
In addition to her new Deanship, Professor Mitra will also take on the role of Vice Provost (Special Projects), supporting university-wide strategic initiatives under the Provost’s Office.
"I am deeply honoured to be entrusted with the leadership of the School of Computing, a place I have called home for nearly a quarter of a century,” said Professor Mitra. “As we enter a new era of AI-driven transformation, I look forward to working with our talented faculty, staff, students, and partners to shape computing education, research, and innovation that serve society and advance human potential."
Professor Mitra succeeds Professor Tan Kian Lee, who has led the School of Computing since 2021. Under his stewardship, the School expanded its offerings in artificial intelligence, launched landmark facilities including Sea Building and Sea Connect, and strengthened its global research footprint. Professor Tan, a distinguished scholar in data science, will return to teaching and research in his role as Tan Sri Runme Shaw Senior Professor of Computer Science.
