Innovation Unleashed: Celebrating the 27th School of Computing Term Project Showcase (STePS)

The 27th School of Computing Term Project Showcase (STePS) once again transformed COM3 into a vibrant hub of innovation, entrepreneurship, and peer learning. This latest edition brought together selected student projects – the culmination of months of rigorous work – to be presented, assessed, and celebrated by the community.

More than just a class showcase, STePS is a dynamic, flipped career-fair model where student teams demonstrate their solutions in computer science and information systems to faculty members, industry guests, government agencies, sponsors, and investors. This multi-party assessment approach not only supports fair and robust grading, but also offers students meaningful real-world exposure and connections.

Key Highlights and Industry Engagement

This year’s showcase featured insightful Industry Talks from organisations such as Tealseed, SingHealth, SafeCert, and SEA. Their perspectives gave students a closer look at emerging technological challenges and opportunities across sectors.

Celebrating Excellence

This edition of STePS introduced two new awards that recognise both technical excellence and professional communication skills – reflecting the breadth of today’s skills computing professionals need to thrive:

  • Desstops At Your Service (CS5224) – Winner of Innovative Open-Source Excellence Award (New)
  • Knotly (IS4108) – Winner of Video and Marketing Excellence Award (New)
  • ScholarAI (CS6101) – Best Project using Graph RAGs for interdisciplinary AI research
  • rêver (CS4350) – Best Game Development project demonstrating creative technical execution

Recapping their journey, Knotly team member Luke Goh (Year 4, Information Systems) shared:

“It was an enjoyable experience to see projects come into fruition and showcase what we did in creative ways.”

Across the participating tracks, top projects included:

The showcase demonstrated remarkable breadth from visually stunning and engaging game projects like rêver and Project: SEELE that excited all audiences, to more academically-driven yet impactful explorations like ScholarAI, which advances AI research methodologies.

Projects spanned cloud computing (Desstops At Your Service), healthcare solutions (Automated Nursing Roster System), and AI applications (Reloop.). Collectively, they reflect STePS’ mission of highlighting the diverse, real-world impact of student innovation at the School of Computing.

A heartfelt thank you to all participants, faculty, industry partners, and voters for making the 27th STePS a resounding success. Your creativity, collaboration, and commitment to excellence continue to shape a community where ideas take flight.
