X + Computing

Computing has become fundamental to modern life, driving productivity across workplaces and enabling innovation in virtually every field. Recognising that computing expertise is now essential beyond the discipline itself, the School of Computing has launched the X + Computing initiative in partnership with colleges, faculties, and schools across NUS.

X + Computing Courses

X + Computing significantly expands our capacity to teach computing skills and their applications across diverse disciplinary areas. The initiative places partner faculties’ expertise at the forefront (the “X” in the name), with Computing serving as a foundational support. Through this model, computing skills are taught in discipline-specific contexts by faculty from partner schools, working in close collaboration with Computing faculty who provide consultation and guidance. This approach enables NUS to meet growing student demand for computing proficiency while maintaining pedagogical excellence through certification and accreditation by the Computing faculty, reflected in the joint ownership of participating programmes and courses.

Overview

Beyond helping students from other faculties master foundational computing skills, X + Computing creates valuable opportunities for computing students to explore diverse domains and apply their expertise across disciplinary boundaries.

To ensure quality and coherence, the School of Computing convenes the X + Computing Coordination Committee during each semester’s recess week. This meeting synchronises all contributing courses and programmes to effectively address computing knowledge requirements and, where possible, align with prerequisite requirements for advanced Computing electives.

Faculties interested in joining the X + Computing initiative should contact the X + Computing Secretariat (Ms Sharon Chan, c.sharon@nus.edu.sg).
