Advancing Frontier Research and Thought Leadership

Professorships

World-class faculty are catalysts for transformation. We endeavour to recruit and develop the world’s brightest academic talents to join us and build their careers with SoC. They engage in frontier research to gain new results and insights, develop novel solutions to a wide range of applications, and build experimental systems that contribute to the advancement of knowledge and application.

Home to more than 100 tenure-track faculty members, SoC is a research-intensive community. This vibrant academic environment has consistently yielded significant contributions to knowledge in Computing in terms of publications in leading computing conferences and journals. Our faculty have earned distinguished paper awards and research accolades across various fields. Our expertise spans artificial intelligence (AI), software engineering, database systems and more.

SoC faculty also have an enduring impact on the students they mentor and teach, shaping the next generation of technology leaders.

A gift towards professorships and academic support enables the School to continue to recruit and retain these exceptional faculty – academics and scholars with a passion for their areas of expertise. If you are keen to spearhead excellence in a field within Computing and Information Systems, we invite you to consider making a gift to support professorships, to help us grow our pool of outstanding faculty talent. Endowed gifts towards professorships funds excellence, and creates a legacy for generations to come.

Named professorships are an honour to recognise outstanding faculty.

A distinguished professorship is awarded to either a tenured full professor at the School, or an external candidate for a tenured professorship, who has demonstrated excellence and international recognition in innovative research and scholarship in the field. A professorship is awarded to a tenured associate professor or full professor at the School. As senior faculty, they mentor junior faculty members and postdoctoral students, and will help build SoC’s reputation for academic excellence.

The minimum gift level to name a professorship is S$2,000,000, and for distinguished professorship is S$5,000,000

The income derived from an endowed professorship go towards supporting the professor’s academic work, which may include salary, research activities and projects, graduate student support and educational innovation.

You may also structure a gift to support Visiting Professorships in fields you are passionate about.

Please contact us if you would like to explore giving to a professorship or to support academic recruitment.

Spearheading Computing Research

If you are keen to support a specific research themes or fields of study in Computing or Information Systems and Analytics, or to drive translational research, or research that directly supports specific industries, you may consider making a gift towards research.

Research gifts can be used to set up a research fund, or to fund a research centre, establish a research laboratory, or a research initiative that brings together groups of researchers. Research gifts enable faculty members to engage in frontier research. Gifts towards early stage, pioneering research can help develop insights and proof of concepts that build a case to compete for subsequent funding from other sources.

SoC faculty are actively engaged in cutting edge research in the following areas:

  • Algorithms and Theory
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Computational Biology
  • Databases
  • Media
  • Programming Languages and Software Engineering
  • Security
  • Systems & Networking
  • Computational Social Science
  • Data Science & Business Analytics
  • Digital Transformation, Platforms and Innovation
  • Financial Technology
  • Healthcare Informatics
  • Intelligent Systems
