Advancing Frontier Research and Thought Leadership

Professorships

World-class faculty are catalysts for transformation. We endeavour to recruit and develop the world’s brightest academic talents to join us and build their careers with SoC. They engage in frontier research to gain new results and insights, develop novel solutions to a wide range of applications, and build experimental systems that contribute to the advancement of knowledge and application.

Home to more than 100 tenure-track faculty members, SoC is a research-intensive community. This vibrant academic environment has consistently yielded significant contributions to knowledge in Computing in terms of publications in leading computing conferences and journals. Our faculty have earned distinguished paper awards and research accolades across various fields. Our expertise spans artificial intelligence (AI), software engineering, database systems and more.

SoC faculty also have an enduring impact on the students they mentor and teach, shaping the next generation of technology leaders.

A gift towards professorships and academic support enables the School to continue to recruit and retain these exceptional faculty – academics and scholars with a passion for their areas of expertise. If you are keen to spearhead excellence in a field within Computing and Information Systems, we invite you to consider making a gift to support professorships, to help us grow our pool of outstanding faculty talent. Endowed gifts towards professorships funds excellence, and creates a legacy for generations to come.

SoC is highly keen to establish professorships in AI fields, namely CyberAI (AI Security & Trustworthiness), Embodied AI, AI Accelerators and Sustainable AI.

Cyber AI (AI Security & Trustworthines

AI systems now underpin critical infrastructure, creating urgent needs for secure, robust and trustworthy AI against AI-enabled attacks. A named professorship will anchor long-term leadership to attract top experts and position SoC as a global leader in secure AI. This also aligns with the national ambition outlined in RIE 2030 to develop deep capabilities in AI, Quantum and Digital Trust and Security to ensure Singapore remains trusted, innovative and competitive.

Embodied AI (Robotics)

Embodied AI is key to next-generation robotics in manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and ageing societies, and has transformative potential across industries and society. A named professorship will support an academic leader in bringing together and harnessing NUS’ strengths in robotics and AI research, across Computing and Engineering. The professorship will serve as a focal point to drive cutting-edge research, talent development, and real-world deployment in embodied AI, connecting intelligence to the physical world.

AI Accelerators

Embodied AI is key to next-generation robotics in manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and ageing societies, and has transformative potential across industries and society. A named professorship will support an academic leader in bringing together and harnessing NUS’ strengths in robotics and AI research, across Computing and Engineering. Sustainable AI

Large-scale AI has significant environmental and energy costs, demanding sustainability as a core design principle. Sustainable AI is under-served globally and aligns strongly with Singapore’s green and digital agendas. The professorship will enable SoC to develop long-term leadership to shape responsible AI research, education, and policy impact in AI here in Singapore and beyond.

Named professorships are an honour to recognise outstanding faculty.

A distinguished professorship is awarded to either a tenured full professor at the School, or an external candidate for a tenured professorship, who has demonstrated excellence and international recognition in innovative research and scholarship in the field. A professorship is awarded to a tenured associate professor or full professor at the School. As senior faculty, they mentor junior faculty members and postdoctoral students, and will help build SoC’s reputation for academic excellence.

The minimum gift level to name a professorship is S$2,000,000, and for distinguished professorship is S$5,000,000

The income derived from an endowed professorship go towards supporting the professor’s academic work, which may include salary, research activities and projects, graduate student support and educational innovation.

You may also structure a gift to support Visiting Professorships in fields you are passionate about.
