Start Singapore: Taking Carousell from mobile to Web

Local start-up Carousell, a mobile e-market for second-hand items co-founded by Computer Engineering alumnus Lucas Ngoo, has added a Web platform to reach new users. Buyers and sellers with a computer will now be able to use the service and will find it easier to add a Web address to their Facebook and Twitter posts linking back to their sale items on Carousell.

S'pore firm's fuel cell set to fly drone for record 300km

Local cleantech firm Horizon Energy Systems is trying for a new world record with a new fuel cell that can fly an unmanned aerial vehicle, often called a drone, for 300km without stopping or refuelling. Computational Biology student Yim Wai Tsyu was involved in operating the drone.

Team Jarvis, comprising Information Systems alumnus Rajul Gupta, clinched the first prize at the second annual BattleHack Singapore 2015 organised by online payment providers PayPal and Braintree. NUS Enterprise incubatee, Zopim Technologies Pte Ltd, a leading provider of live chat software, has been acquired by Zendesk, a cloud-based customer service software solution provider, for US$29.8 million (S$37.3 million), as cited in various media reports. Computer Engineering alumnus Wu Wenxiang was one of Zopim's founders.
