NUS launching 18-month internships

NUS is restructuring its curriculum to allow some of its students to go on work attachments for as long as 18 months, starting from the new academic year in August. Anecdotally, many students do end up receiving offers at the end of their work stints. NUS computer science graduate Rey Neo Zhi Lei, 25, also landed his job as a software engineer at PayPal after interning there in his final year.

Students can now directly apply for double majors at NUS

In AY2017/2018, NUS will offer about 30 new double major combinations and about 40 major-minor combinations. Students can choose from 16 subject areas, including Business Analytics, Computer Science and Information Security. NUS will also be introducing a revamped Bachelor of Computer in Information Systems (IS) degree programme. The programme offers new specialisations in the areas of financial technology, digital innovation and e-commerce.

New S$8.4m national cybersecurity lab launched at NUS

A national laboratory that provides a realistic environment for cybersecurity research and test-bedding of solutions against cyber threats was launched yesterday at NUS. The National Cybersecurity Research and Development (R&D) Laboratory costs S$8.4 million and was funded by the National Research Foundation (NRF). It is capable of simulating the performance of more than a thousand computers to perform tasks like emulating large-scale malicious cyber attacks.

Prof. Tan Chuan Hoo recognised for journal review work

21 December 2016 - Associate Professor Tan Chuan Hoo from the Department of Information Systems has received the 2016 Best Reviewer Award from the Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS). NUS Computing donates computers to a Cambodian school

11 November 2016 - NUS Computing donated 53 computers to a school in Cambodia in July this year. The PCs arrived in mid-August at The Methodist School of Cambodia in Phnom Penh and were set up in September, in preparation for the new academic year which began in October.
