Professor Chua Tat Seng wins Best Paper Award at ACM Multimedia Conference 2020

3 November 2020 – Professor Chua Tat Seng, Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple Chair Professor at NUS Computing and Director of the NUS-Tsinghua Extreme Search Center (NExT++), won the Best Paper award at the ACM Multimedia Conference. The conference was held online from 12 – 16 October 2020, and is a leading international forum for researchers focusing on advancing the research and applications of multiple media such as images, text, audio, speech, music, sensor and social data.

NUS spins off data analytics startup 6Estates

NUS has spun off a new startup called 6Estates from the NUS-Tsinghua Extreme Search Centre (NExT), the research centre it jointly established with Tsinghua University of China. 6Estates is a big data analytics software company with the ability to transform huge volumes and varieties of structured and unstructured data into insights automatically.

Flipkart to use Singapore image search tech

Flipkart, India’s largest online marketplace, has started rolling out image searching on its mobile shopping app which it clams will revolutionise the shopping experience. It is using ViSenze (a spin-off company of NExT Search Centre) technology developed in Singapore for visual search and image recognition.

NUS collaborates with Japanese infocomm company Fuji Xerox on research projects

Researchers and students from NUS are working with Japan's Fuji Xerox to make it easier for people to access online files on the go. This is one of the areas that teams from both sides will look into, after two pacts were signed in July and October last year between NUS Computing and the Interactive and Digital Media Institute at NUS, and Fuji Xerox's Incubation Centre of Research and Technology Group in Japan. Computing students from NUS will also be participating in research internships with Fuji Xerox.

ViSenze Pte Ltd announced its partnership with Taiwan Rakuten Ichiba, Inc. and Clozette. Taiwan Rakuten Ichiba is a subsidiary of Rakuten Group and the partnership will see ViSenze launch a state-of-the-art visual fashion search and recognition service on the company’s social and shopping site in Taiwan.
