Entrepreneurship – A Personal Journey in Media and Advertising
The SoC Special Interest Group on Innovation and Entrepreneurship is pleased to invite Mr Dale W. Lang who is well reputed in the United States for his innovations in local advertising, predating Groupon, and for establishing top women’s magazines. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, he built a successful local advertising network for Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated and United States News and World Report. He sold his business to 3M, and in his career at 3M built the media division into the second largest. From there, he published numerous successful magazines such as Working Woman, McCalls, Working Mother, Ms. and Sassy. Mr Lang also built a women’s art collection that toured United States for several years.
Mr Lang has served on the corporate boards for Borg Warner Corporation and the Paul Taylor Dance Company, the Board of Directors for the Columbia Journalism Review and the Advisory Board for the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Business. Mr Lang now splits his time between Sarasota, Florida, and New York City. He has sold most of his media properties and is currently a private investor.
