Entrepreneurship – A Personal Journey with John Wu

The SoC Special Interest Group on Innovation and Entrepreneurship is pleased to invite Mr John Wu, Venture Partner of Northern Light Venture Capital (NLVC), a China-focused venture capital firm, and former Chief Technology Officer at AliBaba, to share his journey to success with you.

Mr Wu joined NLVC in 2008 and is responsible for evaluating and seeking new investment opportunities in early and growth stage opportunities in consumer and technology enabled businesses.

Before joining NLVC, Mr. Wu was Chief Technology Officer of Alibaba Group, the largest e-commerce company in China, where he directed the design and implementation for its e-commerce software and technology platforms for Alibaba.com, Taobao.com (an online shopping marketplace for consumers in China), and other services in the company. He also founded Alibaba’s U.S. branch and most recently worked on the post-merger integration between Alibaba and Yahoo! China.

John Wu was an early employee at Yahoo, and was Chief Architect of Yahoo!’s directory search engine and its software applications.

Mr. Wu holds a Bachelor of Science degree with high distinction from University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in Computer Science and studied at Shanghai Jiaotong University.
