NUS Computing Expands Global Research Partnerships with Sri Lanka Visit

NUS Computing has taken an important step towards strengthening research and graduate education pathways with Sri Lanka. In January 2025, Assoc Prof Suranga Nanayakkara initiated a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National University of Singapore and the Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka — an effort that was formalised by both parties within a remarkable five months.
To begin operationalising this partnership, an NUS delegation visited Sri Lanka on 31 October 2025 to meet prospective PhD students, engage with university leaders, and reconnect with alumni and collaborators.

The delegation comprised:
- Prof Wong Lim Soon, Deputy Dean, NUS Graduate School
- Assoc Prof Suranga Nanayakkara, Vice Dean (Communications), School of Computing
- Dr Sanka Rasnayaka, Lecturer, School of Computing
- Prof Chan Mun Choon, Vice Dean (Postgraduate Studies), School of Computing
- Dr Boyd Anderson, Associate Dean (Student Conduct), School of Computing
- Assoc Prof Mohan Gurusamy, Assistant Dean (Graduate Programmes), College of Design and Engineering
- Prof Biplab Sikdar, Head, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, College of Design and Engineering
- Assoc Prof Heng Chew Kiat, Assistant Dean (Graduate Studies), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine

NUS Computing expresses its appreciation to the Ministry of Education Sri Lanka, the University of Moratuwa, and all partners and alumni for their warm hospitality and strong support throughout the visit.
This new bridge between NUS and Sri Lanka marks the beginning of a long-term, sustainable collaboration aimed at nurturing outstanding research talent.
