NUS Computing is pleased to share that Assistant Professor Umang Mathur has been awarded the 2026 Robert Brown Promising Researcher Award under the Ministry of Education Singapore (MOE) Academic Research Fund (AcRF) Tier 2 grant. 

In February 2024, an employee at engineering firm Arup joined a video call with people who looked, sounded and moved exactly like the company’s CFO and several colleagues. All of them were deepfakes. Over the course of the call, the employee authorised 15 wire transfers totalling US$25.6 million to accounts controlled by scammers, a case later confirmed by Hong Kong Police. The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center recorded more than US$893 million in adjusted losses from AI-related fraud complaints in 2025, according to a report the agency published in April 2026.

NUS School of Computing has appointed Dr He Ruijie, Executive Director of the Embodied AI Centre (EAIC), as Professor of Practice, on a joint appointment, in the Department of Computer Science, with effect from 22 September 2026.

A paper co-authored by Jialin Li, Sung Kah Kay Assistant Professor and alumnus Dehui Wei from the Department of Computer Science won the Outstanding Paper Award at NSDI (USENIX Symposium on Networked Systems Design and Implementation) '26, one of the top venues in computer networking and systems research.

A research paper by Assistant Professor Lin Shao and collaborators has been selected as a finalist for the ICRA 2026 Best Paper Award, one of the highest honours at the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA).
