16 August 2019 – Two new faculty members have joined the Department of Computer Science in NUS Computing. They are:

Dr Bryan Hooi

Dr Hooi officially joined NUS Computing as an Assistant Professor on 1 July 2019. He recently obtained his PhD degree in Machine Learning from Carnegie Mellon University, USA, in 2019. Before that, Dr Hooi received his Master of Science degree in Computer Science and Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Stanford University, USA, in 2014.

Dr Hooi’s research interests include machine learning, graph mining, anomaly detection, spatiotemporal data, and the biomedical applications of artificial intelligence.

Dr Diptarka Chakraborty

Dr Chakraborty was appointed as an Assistant Professor with the Department of Computer Science on 15 August 2019. He obtained his PhD degree in Computer Science & Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India, in 2016. He obtained his Bachelor of Technology degree in Computer Science & Engineering from the Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata, India, in 2011.

Prior to joining NUS, Dr Chakraborty spent two years as a post-doctoral fellow at Charles University, Czech Republic, and another year at the Weizmann Institute of Science. His research interests are in the areas of theoretical computer science, specifically in algorithms on large datasets, streaming algorithms, string matching algorithms, graph algorithms and data structures.
